Sam Waring
June 21, 1996 - July 10, 2007

Sam died peacefully in Jack's arms today at Marathon Vet Hospital. Jack returned to Key West on Friday and noticed that she did not have her usual zip... He took her to the vet on Saturday. They did tests and she returned home with him. Her condition deteriorated and he took her back to the hospital on Monday. More tests determined that she had cancer and fluid around her heart and lungs. By today she was in distress and Jack returned to Marathon to be with her in her final moments. I return to Key West on Thursday.

Sam Waring
Sammy was born on Jack's birthday and named after him (his middle name is Samuel). Our whole family mourns her loss as do her canine buddies, Tazwell and TP and her friend, P Funk the cat. She will be dearly missed by all.

We are very grateful to the staff of Marathon Veterinary Hospital, in particular Dr. Kristen Hall. When we were trying to make difficult decisions about Sammy she was always available to talk to me and guide me through a very heart-breaking process. It was very hard to be out of town when Sammy became sick and died and Dr. Kristen was so compassionate and caring. And a special thank you goes to my dear sister, Cynthia, who has always been "on-call" for all of our animals.

Isa the Husky
IN MEMORY OF ISA January 26, 1994 - June 8, 2007
Dear Dr. Doug, Lindy, and everyone:

Thank you so much for the card you sent me after Isa's passing a week ago today. It meant so much to me as did the genuine concern of your practice and the exceptional care Isa received. It was always well
worth the drive to Key West.

I want to share with you something about why Isa was such a special dog and special to me. Isa's original owner was named Ted. Isa was purchased specifically for her red color, which was also the color of the hair of Ted's partner at the time Jeff. Jeff had been around Husky's in the past and knew what loving and wonderful dogs they are. So, Ted and Jeff got Isa because they both knew Ted would need a companion after Jeff passed away, because he was terminally ill. Ted used to tell me how Isa "saved his life" after Jeff's passing (I came to understand what he meant later).

Then I entered the picture in 1998 when I met Ted and Isa. I remember back then how energetic she was, always running everywhere, playing tug of war with her rope, and chasing after squirrels, rabbits and cats. She was a ball of energy and Ted was always surprised at how much she trusted me to share her territory with me (like the couch!!!).

Sadly, Ted passed away suddenly while we were on vacation in 1999. I picked Isa up alone at the Kennel and we grieved together. There was only one person in this world who loved Isa as much as me and that was Ted. Isa would get me out of my house in my sadness for her walks and thank God for that. This is when I came to understand what Ted meant when he said that"Isa saved his life" . She saved mine too!!!

Enter a new chapter in Isa and my life when we moved to Key West in 2001. We walked ALL OVER THIS TOWN and I mean that literally. Mallory square, Smathers beach, Dual Street, by the boats at Conch Harbor Marina and Schooner Warf, and then some. People knew me in Key West by Isa.... We were always seen together... definitely my better half. Just the other night after she died I took one last walk along all of our old routes while holding her leash. Then I was able to leave her leash behind for someone to find and hopefully use with their dog.

My heart is full of so much love for Isa and she meant the world to me. I have never told anyone this whole story and I guess I needed to tell it. Thanks for listening. And thanks again from both of us. I know that indeed Isa is frolicking in green fields with Ted and happy as clams and one day I will be reunited with both of them.

I will always be a better person because of our time together and I will hold you in my heart forever...
Till we meet again.
With Love, Todd

Charlie Baby

On March 3, 1998, you were born into this world not a minute too late. Wet, crying, and hungry for your mama's milk; you wiggled, and squirmed until you found her tit. A tiny runt of a dachshund you were; you needed some help to get 'round the first six weeks curve.

After that, you were well on your way to becoming the loving, handsome dog you are today. Jumping and running and playing with your blue ball; smiling and barking and dragging Wingnut down the hall. You grew up fast with a great personality but kept ole' Binki perched high in a tree.Swimming, boating and inner tubing too, there was nothing in this world you thought you couln't do. You could talk, roll over, and sing for a treat; what a joy to my heart to hear your four little feet. You'll be missed, my Charlie Baby, for I've loved you like no other.
But I know you're free of pain in Heaven and you wait for me, your mother.

I love you, Mama            8-10-03
