Maxie YoumansIt has been several months since Dr Doug Mader of the Marathon Veterinary Hospital sent a letter of thanks to Fisherman’s Hospital through The Keynoter and The Citizen thanking them for supplying my dog, Maxie, with a hard to get human drug Human IgG. Maxie had a rare blood disease. All conventional procedures were failing, thus Maxie was dying. Maxie is recovering and back to her normal “running the world” self. |
I too, would like to thank Fisherman’s Hospital for their part in saving Maxie’s life. We, in the Keys, all too often hear of the lack of customer service and customer satisfaction. I can assure you this is not the case at Marathon Veterinary Hospital. In my thirty plus years of working with companies as a consultant in the fields of sales management, customer service and planning techniques, it took a horrible experience of almost loosing a family member to find one of the most fine tuned business environments in the country. Dr Mader has assembled a very professional well trained staff that truly loves its work. His staff, as Mr. Collins said in his book, are all in the right seats, on the right bus all heading in the same direction. Each member of the team makes you feel that you are absolutely the most important person in the land. I must say, in several speeches over the last few weeks, I have referenced the powerful impact that a business like Marathon Veterinary Hospital has on our community and what they represent in the world of proper business acumen. The extra mile this staff goes for us in the Keys comes in the next few lines of thanks to each staff member. Thank you to Kelly, Della, Molly, Celeste, Bunny, Sara, and Shirey for taking turns spending nights with Maxie so she would not have to be alone. A special thanks to Shirey for making me feel the Maxie was her only “baby” and to Sara for baby sitting Maxie while I was out of town. Thank you to Lindy, Teresa and Melissa for making me feel so welcome and finding me comfortable places in the practice that I could stay with Maxie during the day and evenings. Thank you to Dr. Doug, Dr Gerry and Dr. Alissa for their assistance and guidance in Maxie’s recovery. To one of the most dedicated people to their field, Dr. Kristin M. Hall, the person who led the charge in Maxie’s recovery, my life long thanks goes to her. She spent all of her free time consulting and researching this horrific blood disease. She was simply committed not to give up on Maxie as long as she was not suffering. Dr. Kristin Hall exemplifies the true meaning of compassion, dedication, and the inability to accept anything but the best of herself. I must say, she did a good job of managing me through this as well! Marathon Veterinary Hospital will make many CEO’s in America envious of their attack on their daily business activities. It’s quite a place, just ask Maxie. Bill Youmans |
